Captain of the All-Blacks from 1992 to his retirement in 1997, he proved a strong and charismatic leader, bringing joy to many lovers of Rugby with his ruthless, but humorous approach to the game. After more than a decade of Rugby played at the highest level, 'Fitzy' retired with an incredible winning percentage of 80% in Test matches for his country.

In a striking photograph taken during a Bledisloe Cup match, the essence of the scrum - perhaps even of Rugby itself, was brilliantly captured.
